Antioxidant vitamins, including A, E and C, don’t help you live longer, according to an analysis of dozens of studies of these popular supplements.
The new review showing no long-life benefit from those vitamins, plus beta carotene and selenium, adds to growing evidence questioning the value of these supplements.
Some experts said, however, that it’s too early to toss out all vitamin pills — or the possibility that they may have some health benefits. Others said the study supports the theory that antioxidants work best when they are consumed in food rather than pills.An estimated 80 million to 160 million people take antioxidants in North America and Europe, about 10 to 20 percent of adults, the study’s authors said. And last year, Americans spent $2.3 billion on nutritional supplements and vitamins at grocery stores, drug stores and retail outlets, excluding Wal-Mart, according to Information Resources Inc., which tracks sales.
The new study, appearing in Wednesday’s Journal of the American Medical Association, was led by the Cochrane Hepato-Biliary Group at Copenhagen University Hospital in Denmark.
The Cochrane organization is a respected international network of experts that conducts systematic reviews of scientific evidence on health interventions.

This morning (Monday) in New York City, they presented to the media what they claimed were ancient urns containing the bones of Jesus and Mary Magdelene, whom they claimed was Jesus’ wife! They also claimed Jesus had a son with his wife!
All of this isn’t just biblically inaccurate, it’s bad history and bad science. You deserve to know the truth.Whether you’re a Christian or not, archeological and historical truth is very important. James Cameron has cooked up a big story. The problem is, it’s total fiction!”MEDIA ADVISORY, Feb. 26 —The claim of James Cameron and the Discovery Channel that a tomb contains the bones of Jesus is bogus, said leading Biblical and archeological scholars today.
“Unfortunately, this is a story full of holes, conjectures and problems,” said Dr. Ben Witherington, author of What Have They Done With Jesus? and New Testament professor at Asbury Theological Seminary. “It will make good TV and involves a bad critical reading of history. Basically, this is old news with a new interpretation. We have known about this tomb since it was discovered in 1980. There are all sorts of reasons to see this as much ado about nothing much.”
Witherington and other leading biblical scholars and archeologists say there are at least 10 reasons why the “Jesus Tomb” claim is completely bogus:-
1. There is no DNA evidence that this is the historical Jesus of Nazareth

2. The statistical analysis is untrustworthy

3. The name “Jesus” was a popular name in the first century, appearing in 98 other tombs and on 21 other ossuaries

4. There is no historical evidence that Jesus was ever married or had a child

5. The earliest followers of Jesus never called him “Jesus, son of Joseph”

6. It is highly unlikely that Joseph, who died earlier in Galilee, was buried in Jerusalem, since the historical record connects him only to Nazareth or Bethlehem

7. The Talpiot tomb and ossuaries are such that they would have belonged to a rich family, which does not match the historical record for Jesus

8. Fourth-century church historian Eusebius makes quite clear that the body of James, the brother of Jesus, was buried alone near the temple mount and that his tomb was visited in the early centuries, making very unlikely that the Talpiot tomb was Jesus’ “family tomb”

9. The two Mary ossuaries do not mention anyone from Migdal, but simply has the name Mary, one of the most common of all ancient Jewish female names

By all ancient accounts, the tomb of Jesus was empty, making it highly unlikely that it was moved to another tomb, decayed for one year’s time, and then the bones put in an ossuary “In light of all the incredible number of problems with the recent claim that Jesus’ grave has been found, the time-honored, multi-faceted evidence for the bodily resurrection of Jesus is more convincing than ever,” said Dr. Gary Habermas, an expert on the resurrection of Jesus and author of The Case for the Resurrection. “Even the early opponents of the Christian message acknowledged that Jesus’ tomb was empty. (AP: Alisa Tang) BAGRAM, Afghanistan – A suicide bomber killed 19 people and wounded 11 outside the main U.S. military base in Afghanistan on Tuesday during a visit by Vice President Dick Cheney, though the vice president was apparently not in danger, U.S. and Afghan officials said.
The blast happened near the first security gate outside the base at Bagram, killing 19 people, said Khoja Mohammad Qasim Sayedi, chief of the province’s public health department. Gov. Abdul Jabar Taqwa said “18 to 20 dead bodies” lay on the ground after the blast.
Maj. William Mitchell said it did not appear the explosion was intended as a threat to the vice president.
“He wasn’t near the site of the explosion,” Mitchell said. “He was safely within the base at the time of the explosion.”
Mitchell said it appeared there were casualties from the blast, but he didn’t immediately know how many.
Ajmall, a shopkeeper in the market outside the base, called the blast “huge,” and said it shook the small market area. Ajmall, who goes by one name, said those wounded in the blast were taken inside the U.S. base for treatment.However Iraqi VP Narrowly Escapes Assassination

Adel Abdul-Mahdi was slightly wounded in the explosion, which splintered chairs, destroyed a speakers’ podium and sent a chilling message that suspected Sunni militants can strike anywhere despite a major security crackdown across Baghdad.
As U.S. forces sealed off the area around the municipal building, investigators grappled with the troubling question of how the bomb was smuggled into the ministry of public works – a seven-story structure with crack surveillance systems from its days as offices for Saddam Hussein’s feared intelligence service.
The bomb – possibly hidden in the podium – went off moments after the minister for public works finished a speech in the third-floor chamber, witnesses said. Abdul-Mahdi had made a welcoming address a few minutes earlier, raising speculation the bomb could have been on a timer-trigger that missed the vice president by sheer luck.

This time, the ship he’s sinking is Christianity.In a new documentary, Producer Cameron and his director, Simcha Jacobovici, make the starting claim that Jesus wasn’t resurrected –the cornerstone of Christian faith– and that his burial cave was discovered near Jerusalem. And, get this, Jesus sired a son with Mary Magdelene.

Let’s go back 27 years, when Israeli construction workers were gouging out the foundations for a new building in the industrial park in the Talpiyot, a Jerusalem suburb. of Jerusalem. The earth gave way, revealing a 2,000 year old cave with 10 stone caskets. Archologists were summoned, and the stone caskets carted away for examination. It took 20 years for experts to decipher the names on the ten tombs. They were: Jesua, son of Joseph, Mary, Mary, Mathew, Jofa and Judah, son of Jesua.Israel’s prominent archeologist Professor Amos Kloner didn’t associate the crypt with the New Testament Jesus. His father, after all, was a humble carpenter who couldn’t afford a luxury crypt for his family. And all were common Jewish names.There was also this little inconvenience that a few miles away, in the old city of Jerusalem, Christians for centuries had been worshipping the empty tomb of Christ at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Christ’s resurrection, after all, is the main foundation of the faith, proof that a boy born to a carpenter’s wife in a manger is the Son of God.
But film-makers Cameron and Jacobovici claim to have amassed evidence through DNA tests, archeological evidence and Biblical studies, that the 10 coffins belong to Jesus and his family.
Ever the showman, (Why does this remind me of the impresario in another movie,”King Kong”, whose hubris blinds him to the dangers of an angry and very large ape?) Cameron is holding a New York press conference on Monday at which he will reveal three coffins, supposedly those of Jesus of Nazareth, his mother Mary and Mary Magdalene. News about the film, which will be shown soon on Discovery Channel, Britain’s Channel 4, Canada’s Vision, and Israel’s Channel 8, has been a hot blog topic in the Middle East (check out a personal favorite: Israelity Bites) Here in the Holy Land, Biblical Archeology is a dangerous profession. ascension and married with children, tenets of the Christian faith are looked at

The Talpiot Tomb could be
soon the most famous holy relic in the Christian empire. Canadian Titanic
director James Cameron and filmmaker archeologist Simcha Jacobovici have set to
prove that it once held the remains of Jesus of Nazareth and his family. The
evidence and interpretations of the artifacts will be presented in a documentary
“The Lost Tomb of Jesus” on the Discovery Channel March 4th on the Discovery
Channel at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
According to a Discovery Channel press release,
“scientific evidence, including DNA analysis conducted at one of the world’s
foremost molecular genetics laboratories, as well as studies by leading
scholars, suggests a 2,000-year-old Jerusalem tomb could have once held the
remains of Jesus of Nazareth and his family. The findings also suggest that
Jesus and Mary Magdalene might have produced a son named Judah. “The tomb was
unearthed for the third time in 1980 as construction crews blasted for new
apartments in the town of Talpiot, a suburb south of Jerusalem.
In the
demolition, children discovered a low door with a symbol over it, an inverted
“V” with a circle at its base, which has been associated with early
Christianity. The Discovery Channel stated the evidence could be the “greatest
archaeological find in history”. Cameron disputes the claim that his film is a
blow to two of the most important tenets of Christian faith, resurrection and
ascension.

Utah SC Refuses To Give A Lesbian Parental Rights to Former Partner’s Child
Utah Supreme Court issued a ruling in the case of Jones v. Barlow and denied an unrelated woman any parental rights over the child of her former partner, who is now a Christian. This is a great victory for real parents who should be the ones directing the lives of their little children.
Liberty Counsel is currently defending two separate cases (one in California, and the other in both Vermont and Virginia) on behalf of biological mothers whose lesbian former partners are trying to obtain parental rights. It is heartbreaking to even imagine that a court would grant an unrelated woman visitation with a biological mother’s little child. Pray for victory in the ongoing battle for the family. The battles are great, but the Lord is greater. -

(AP) TEANECK, N.J. – Hundreds of gay couples received the same legal protections as married couples early Monday when a law making New Jersey the third state in the nation to offer civil unions took effect.
The civil unions – which offer the legal benefits but not the title of marriage – were granted automatically to the hundreds of gay New Jersey couples who have been joined in civil unions or married in other states or nations.
At least one couple held a ceremony at the first possible moment. Steven Goldstein and Daniel Gross reaffirmed their Vermont civil union shortly after midnight. They would have had the rights in New Jersey even without holding a midnight ceremony here.
State Sen. Loretta Weinberg, a prime sponsor of the civil unions law who hosted ceremonies for couples including Goldstein and Gross in her office, called the day “a big giant step forward.”
A handful of town halls across the state also opened at 12:01 a.m. to accept civil union license applications from couples who had not been so joined previously. They must wait 72 hours before they can hold civil union ceremonies, and several plan to exchange vows early Thursday. READ ON……….
